Share a "Tail"

Let's honor your wonderful adopted dogs, adopted cats, and service dogs by featuring their stories in a book! We now have three different books for your to participate in:
1) The Lost Souls: Found! series of books about adopted/rescued dogs and cats
2) Partners With Paws: Assistance Dogs and the Lives They Change
3) Confessions of Irresponsible Pet Parents(anecdotes about pet-related oopsies)

You can submit information for one of several sections in our books. Longer stories (600-1200 words, please!) will be considered for features. Shorter stories, preferably no more than a paragraph in length, will be considered for our "short break" sections. For this section you can tell us a funny or heartwarming anecdote about your dog or cat, or describe a challenge you had (medical or behavioral) and how you overcame it. We are also open to poems, recipes, and of course, great photos.

It is not necessary that your dog or cat came from a rescue group. The only stories we will not consider are those about dogs and cats who were bought from a breeder or pet store - the point of our books is to encourage rescue and adoption. (A note on submissions for our Assistance Dog and Confessions books: while we prefer to hear about rescues, we will consider submissions about dogs from breeders for this book only.)

Both Purebred and Mixed-breed dogs and cats are welcome! We like to include some stories of mixed-breed dogs in our books - just let us know what your dog's dominant breed is. At this time our cat books are not organized by breed.

Have more than one adopted dog or cat? Tell us about them all!

The best stories are emotional. They make the reader laugh and/or cry. They generally begin with a problem (often the dog or cat is in a bad situation), involve some kind of rescue situation, there are some ups and downs including one main crux, and then the story is resolved and everyone lives happily ever after. This is NOT always the pattern, but most stories that are accepted for the books resemble this pattern to some extent.

LICENSE AND RELEASE I understand that Happy Tails Books, LLC, is collecting information, photographs, materials and personal stories about pets ("Stories") (collectively, "Contributions") in order to make a compilation of such stories for publication and distribution (the "Book(s)"). For good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I hereby acknowledge, I agree as follows. I, the undersigned ("I" or "Individual"), am giving irrevocable permission to Happy Tails, LLC, its affiliates, licensees, subsidiaries, successors, assigns and agents (collectively, "Happy Tails"), to use, publish, broadcast and publicly display my name, picture and likeness (if applicable), or any material based upon or derived therefrom (“Likeness”), as well as that of my pet animal, anywhere in the world and on the Internet in any manner or media whatsoever for purposes of publishing, distributing, and promoting the Book(s) and any ancillary products or projects related thereto. I hereby grant to Happy Tails an irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license anywhere in the world and on the Internet to use, modify, adapt, broadcast, display, transmit, exhibit, project, reproduce, publish, distribute, create derivative works of and to otherwise exploit Contributions that I provide to Happy Tails, in connection with the Book(s) as well as any marketing efforts and ancillary products or projects related thereto. I attest that I am 18 years old or older and am the sole owner of all rights, title and interest in my Contributions. I have not assigned, transferred, licensed, pledged or otherwise encumbered the copyright(s) in my Contributions. I understand and agree that I may not be given a chance to inspect or approve the Book(s) or the ancillary products or projects, or the promotional or marketing material, messages and/or content related thereto, which may use my Likeness or Contributions. Nothing contained herein will constitute any obligation on the part of Happy Tails to make any use of the rights granted herein. This License and Release shall be binding on my personal representatives, heirs, successors and assigns. I hereby release Happy Tails from, and covenant not to sue Happy Tails for, any claim or cause of action, whether known or unknown, for libel, slander, defamation, invasion of right of privacy, publicity or personality, copyright infringement, or any other claim or cause of action, based upon or relating to the use of my Likeness or Contributions or the exercise of any of the rights referred to herein. I represent and warrant that I have had the opportunity to seek the advice and counsel of legal professionals in connection with this License and Release. This License and Release constitutes our entire understanding and agreement with respect to the subject matter hereof and cannot be amended except by a written instrument signed by the parties hereto. This License and Release will be governed by the internal laws of the State of Colorado applicable to contracts wholly negotiated, executed and performed therein.
