Thank you for recognizing the importance of dog adoption and dog rescue, and for your interest in Happy Tails Books' efforts to support the important cause of animal rights. As you probably know, the number of GOOD animals in need of homes is staggering. Even so, puppy mills continue to thrive because people see the cute doggie in the window at the pet shop and simply can't resist. Often they think they are getting a "better" dog than a shelter dog only because they don't know the TRUTH about the dog's past.

"American Humane," an organization that works for human and animal rights, estimates that "9.6 million animals are euthanized annually in the United States."This gruesome statistic doesn't take into account the number of animals that suffer abuse worse than death at puppy mills. This needless cruelty must end, and Happy Tails Books wants to do our part by educating people about the joys of dog adoption through thought-provoking stories from people who have adopted dogs. We further support dog rescue efforts by donating back every penny possible from book sales to the rescue groups that help us collect stories for our books.

Although the previous statistic might lead you to believe that the stories in our books are all doom and gloom, that is definitely not the case! Instead, the stories reflect the positive changes in many dogs' lives due to human compassion and kindness. From the "voice" of passionate owners, readers learn that adopted dogs usually turn into great pets, becoming loving companions for the elderly, playmates for children, and all-around best friends for the whole family. The stories are fun, emotional and educational.

Please help us to get the word out by featuring a review or article about the "Lost Souls: Found!" series of books. We have eBooks available if you'd like to read one and write a review, and we've posted an article you can cut and paste into your blog to let people know about our efforts here (feel free to edit as necessary).

What Makes HTB Special?

1. Never before has there been a series of stories about adopted dogs that are organized by breed. Let's face it, dog lovers are fiercely loyal to their breed! Now they can be entertained by stories about the breed they love and are familiar with, which allows for many of those "that happens to me too!" moments that people love! Additionally, these books bring to light the fact that breed-specific rescues exist all over the country, encouraging people who want a purebred dog to look to rescue one before going to a breeder.

2. We work directly with the rescue groups to gather stories, and then we donate a significant portion of book profits back to them! This is a situation where everybody wins. People who have adopted get to brag about their amazing dogs. Rescue groups get exposure and additional funding. From 2009 sales between June and November we donated over $3,800 back to dog rescue organizations.

3. Unlike other storybooks, the "Lost Souls: Found!" series is entertaining and educational. The stories we include not only evoke strong emotions, but they serve to share information about the breed and about dog adoption. With your help, we hope that everyone considering a dog will use this book as a guide to the breed, which will help them make a good decision about whether the type of dog is right for them. The books also serve to let people know that some dogs are in rescue simply because of a bad situation, not because anything was wrong with them. Most rescue dogs make great pets!

3. At the end of the day, the books need to be good...and our readers say the "Lost Souls: Found!" series is Great!" You might be saying to yourself, "donating to charity is nice, but are the stories interesting?" The answer is YES! Each book is carefully screened by a panel to ensure that every story is thought-provoking and interesting. The book includes a variety of themes; some fun, others sad, but for the most part they all have happy endings. Please click on the links to book previews to experience the stories for yourself, and don't hesiate to look us up on Amazon.com to see what our readers have to say.

MEDIA KIT:

Please feel free to use the following information for stories and articles about Happy Tails Books:

Too busy to write an original article? No problem! Here is an article you can cut and paste into your blog or newsletter to encourage your readers to submit stories (edit as necessary). Thanks, in advance, for helping us to inform people about our books. We look forward to reading stories about their adopted dogs!

Happy Tails Books publishes compilations of stories from people who have adopted dogs. Their breed-specific "Lost Souls: Found!" series showcases the love and joy these adopted dogs bring to their new homes in an effort to raise awareness of, and funding for dog rescue organizations.

Happy Tails Books is currently working on books about Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Pugs, Boxers and mixes thereof, and they've asked me to share their information in case you'd like to submit a story about your adopted dog(s). Guidelines and a submission form are located at http://happytailsbooks.com/submit.htm. You can send in a complete story about your dog (600-1200 words), a paragraph about something sweet or funny he/she did, a training/health challenge and how it was solved, a poem, or a recipe. They are also looking for high resolution, professional-quality photos for the front and back covers. Be sure to list the rescue you are associated with in the submission form (if applicable - dog don't need to be from a rescue, they just can't be purchased from a pet store or breeder), as rescues earn points from each story submitted or book purchased, and then the points turn into a donation at the end of the year.
